Shipping Information
After 15 years of shipping bulbs at vanveenbulbs.com we have found:

It is easiest to ship small weight orders using two-day USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes.

It is easiest to ship large weight orders using UPS ground.

We can ship bulbs year round using USPS Priority Mail. We have many customers in Texas, Georgia, Florida and other southern states that are thrilled that they can get bulbs shipped to them in the winter and if we have the bulbs in stock, they will be shipped right away. On the rare occassion that we have extreme cold temperatures in Vancouver, Washington, we may have to wait a week to ship.

From November through April it is difficult to ship using UPS from Vancouver, Washington to the colder climates of the Midwest or the East Coast because the trucks must go over North Dakota and most bulbs including daffodils will get so cold that they freeze solid and turn to mush when they defrost.

We prefer to wait to April to ship bulbs to colder climates . However, if you really want them before that time we ship all bulbs that are going East of the Cascade Mountains from November through April using USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes. After you order on-line please e-mail us at info@vanveenbulbs.com or phone us at 1-888-BUY-BULB if you would like them shipped earlier than April in hard winter areas. Otherwise they will be shipped at a warmer time. We will ship anytime of year but can not replace bulbs if they are left out in freezing temperatures unprotected by the postal service or a customer.

The shipping and handling charges are preprogrammed into our shopping cart system using the UPS system based on the weight of the ordered bulbs and where they are being sent. It costs about the same to ship USPS so we use the system for both methods.

For example, crocus bulbs are small and do not weigh much compared to amaryllis belladonna (naked lady) bulbs that are the size of your palm and weigh a great deal more so they will cost more to ship.

The flat rate USPS flat rate fee is $8.10 anywhere in the United States but it may come up at $10 total shipping and handling fee. The extra $1.90 covers tape, labels, etc.

Once you receive the bulbs, open the box right away and the bags and plant as soon as possible in the ground or a container.
