Vanveen Bulbs International is owned and operated by Peter and Yolanda Wilson in Vancouver, Washington. The couples' love of plants can be directly traced back to their grandparents in England and Hollland
Peter's grandfather James who lived in the 12th century Wynter's Cottage in Magdalen Laver, Essex, England could be found on any day of the year tending his vegetable and flower gardens with an unequaled passion. The intoxicating fragrance of his grandfathers roses in June was enough to help shape Peter's love of plants that today he shares with many gardeners worldwide. In 1985 he emigrated to the USA where he his love of gardening has blossomed.
Yolanda's grandfather Johannes Vanveen was a cyclamen hybridizer in Aalsmeer Holland and Grandfather Paul Stigter grew chrysanthemums. Yolanda's parents Bart and Atty Vanveen emigrated to America in 1959 and the family nursery has been going since 1969. As a young girl Yolanda learned that by carefully watching her parents methods of growing and caring for plants one can achieve phenomenal results. As professional growers the family nursery enjoyed many successes but above all they were consistent about two things, plant quality and customer service. That ideal has been an integral part of Vanveenbulbs since being founded by Yolanda in 1992.
In 2004 both Peter and Yolanda graduated from the Washington State University Master Gardener Program and have enjoyed helping fellow gardeners in their community. We encourage all gardeners to be involved with the Master Gardener Program in their area through their local State University Extension Program.
